The USAAF 385th Bomb group ww2 living history unit

welcome

Thanks for stopping by! We are a Living History Group based in the UK that are dedicated to keeping the memory of the brave members of the USAAF 385th Bomb Group alive for future generations. We attend various events around the country where we display how the men and women of the 385thBG lived and worked on the ground and in the air. If you are interested in attending an event or joining the group more details can be found on the site.

The unit re-creates various aspects of the life, equiptment, clothing and heroic work of the US 8th Army Air Forces 385th Bomb Group and in particular the 548th Bomb Squadron who were based at Great Ashfield Aerodrome during WW2.  Our members have a wealth of knowledge surrounding many different aspects of the air war over Europe and some specialise in kit and equiptment from certain areas including Armourers, Photo Reconnaissance, Gunners and Air WAC's the Womens branch of  the USAAF. With a fascinating collection of actual wartime items you can see first hand how Aircrews survived in the air in sub-zeroconditions. What a waist gunners job was and how cameras became a weapon of war!
